Sitting on the side of Hwy 25 ...

First off, let me warn you that this is a partial football post. It sets up the story.

So State won the elusive 4th game for the first time since 2000. A victory, good food at the tailgate afterwards. Good times.

Around 5:30, my buddy and I head out on our way back to Jackson. Stop in Louisville for gas.

South of Carthage, still a good 25-30 miles to Hwy 43 (to get to my place), the lights in his truck start to go dim. The ABS light comes on. Other warning lights come on. The radio starts to fade. The engine is still going and we're still moving.

Maybe another 5 miles later, after all lights had died, the engine starts sputtering before it finally dies. We get off the road just south of where 25 and 483 intersect. In short, the middle of BFE. This was about 7:30 pm.

My buddy calls AT&T's roadside assistance (since he works for AT&T). It goes something like this:

them: What town are you in?
he: We're not in a town.
them: What mile marker are you at?
he: There are no mile markers on the highways.
them: We need to know where you are located?
he: We're at the 25 and 483 intersection. I have a GPS here. Our lat./long. is ___.
them: What town are you in?

It was almost useless. But finally, they were able to contact a tow truck to come get us. It was 9:00 pm when they arrived. Two good ol' boys about my age. We think one of them has a memory problem because he asked us the same two questions about Croom and MSU at least three times.

During the wait for the tow, one vehicle did stop to check on us. That was nice. We pray for nice things to happen to him and his family. Everyone else that didn't stop, well, we hope for long lines for you at the grocery store.

About an hour later, got to his house and now he has to learn how to replace an alternator.

But hey, MSU is 4-2. And that's all that matters.

Hmmm. An hour and a half for help to arrive?

Cow wonders if her AAA towing would have beaten that record.

And, must point out, these days, unless you are heavily armed, it is better not to have people stopping to "assist" you on the road....

Because they might not be wanting to do that, at all.

Moo!

Considering it took at least half an hour for roadside assistance to realize what our situation was, we're glad to have gotten any help at all.

People jokingly asked us if we had any Bud Light ... and an ax.

We didn't. We did have melted ice cream and an air pump.
